The Crisis-Management Committee News No. 5

FROM: Nobuyuki Matsui
Head of Crisis-Management Committee,
President, Nagoya Institute of Technology

TO: all members of NITECH

In response to the ongoing outspread of swine flu (influenza A(H1N1)) in Japan, the Crisis-Management Committee has considered the necessary countermeasures on May 18th, and the board of directors has decided to implement the following measures. Your understanding and cooperation will be greatly appreciated.

  • (1) Any students or employees of NITECH returning from the country(s) with wide-spread cases of swine-flu (i.e. Mexico, the United States of America (the continental only), and Canada) on or after May 19th, are not allowed to enter the campus for 7 days after the return (i.e. 7 days including the date of arrival). During these 7 days, please take a wait-and-see approach at your home. (Previously, those who returned from any of these countries on or after May 14th were requested to follow this measure for 10 days, but this measure shortens it to 7 days.)
  • (2) The duration of wait-and-see approach for those who have returned from the concerned countries between May 14th and 18th is shortened from the original 10 days to 7 days as well.
  • (3) No changes have been made to other countermeasures described in the previous notice (the Crisis-Management Committee News No. 4).

Additionally, you are requested to use cautions in order to avoid the infection of the flu, by avoiding any unnecessary and non-urgent travels as well as encounters with crowds of people, and wearing a mask, frequently washing your hands and gargling in order to avoid infections through the contacts to the airborne droplets resulting from coughing and sneezing.

Please be aware that we will keep taking actions in response to the rapidly-changing situations surrounding the outbreak of swine flu. In some cases, we may decide on temporary school closing and /or cancelation of classes in order to minimize the damage due to the flu. Consequently, pay close attention to the most up-to-date information posted on the NITECH's homepage as well as the portal site.
