Nagoya Instituted of Technology constituted its Charter.

The articles of NITech charter are follows:

Charter of Nagoya Institute of Technology

Fundamental Mission

Nagoya Institute of Technology (NITech) was founded as the first national institution of higher education in central Japan in order to develop the region as Japan’s center of industry. Maintaining a respect for this historic mission and acting as one of the leading engineering institutes in Japan, NITech shall therefore make its fundamental mission as follows: developing revolutionary science and technologies, fostering rich human resources, and contributing to peace and social welfare of the future by acting as a source to consistently produce and develop new industries and culture.

Monozukuri

NITech shall respect practical and creative research activities based on the independent ideas of its members, encourage global academic cooperation, and endeavor to create new values while believing in the unlimited possibilities of engineering beyond the constraints of conventional frameworks of engineering.

Hitozukuri

NITech shall devote itself to foster leading human resources whose unique qualities and international minds possess the ability to develop a new science and technologies based on engineering and change the world by exploring, creating, challenging, and taking action.

Miraizukuri

NITech, as an open institute with a public mandate, shall emphasize harmony and cooperation with local and international societies, and strive to make continuous efforts to realize a peaceful and prosperous society for the future.

Supplement

Nagoya Institute of Technology (NITech) was founded in 1905 (the 38th year of the Meiji era) as the development of modern industry in Japan was beginning to gain momentum. Known at that time as the Nagoya Higher Technical School, it was created for the purpose of developing the industries of the central region of Japan and for encouraging people to pursue careers in industry. In 1949 (the 24th year of the Showa era) after changing its name to Nagoya College of Technology, NITech merged with Aichi Prefectural College of Technology and became a national university which led to its being known by its modern name, Nagoya Institute of Technology. In 2004 (the 16th year of the Heisei era), concurrent with all national universities in Japan, NITech became a national university corporation and has since been developing under its own leadership. This Charter of NITech shall establish founding principles in order that all members of NITech shall strive each in their own capacity that NITech, already a leading engineering institution, shall continuously develop to become a more unique and more attractive institute of higher learning, while keeping in mind its long tradition and social mission.

As a national engineering college located in Japan’s largest industrial area, NITech has always worked closely within society and with industry, and has continuously made great efforts for the creation of numerous excellent academic technologies along with the education of talented human resources. At the institute’s foundation, upon requests from local industry, NITech was originally organized into five divisions: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, Textiles, and Dyeing. NITech has since broadened its fields of research and education responding to the needs of the modern era. Now NITech has become one of the largest engineering institutes in Japan covering almost all fields of engineering, and continues to substantially contribute to society. Graduates of NITech are playing important roles in many fields, especially in industry, with many graduates active as business managers, core engineers or researchers with good reputations and strong degrees of trust.

The mission of NITech is different from that of a general college or university because of its history. In Japan’s Meiji era (1868 ? 1912), the central region of Japan was the birthplace of many Japan’s major industries, such as the spinning and textile industries. NITech was founded as a national educational institution in this region during this period and this made it an innovative institution with a goal to develop industries and to help establish the central region of Japan as the heart of Japanese manufacturing. Serving this purpose, NITech has educated many excellent engineers and business managers, developed many innovative technologies, and has made great contributions to industrial development in this region. Presently, the central region of Japan is recognized as one of the top industrial areas of the world. Recognition that includes the region’s world leading automobile industry. Continuing to reflect and build on the NITech’s historical background in industry while also working towards world peace and human happiness is the institution’s ultimate goal. NITech’s fundamental mission is to hereafter develop innovative academic technologies, foster talented human resources and enlighten society in order to serve as a foundation of new industry and culture.

The issues that need to be resolved in order to maintain a peaceful society and develop an industrial culture have become diverse, complex global issues. The complexity of these issues means they are often insolvable either by either a single university or research institution or by the knowledge a sole academic field. Therefore, it is necessary for engineering institutions to respect the creative research activities based on the independent minds of their members, encourage global academic cooperation, and to challenge unprecedented tasks while believing in the unlimited possibilities that engineering can achieve when not constrained by the existing frameworks of engineering.

In recognition of the above points, NITech shall constitute the following articles of its Charter so that every member of this institute shall make their best effort in each of their own capacity with awareness and pride as members of this educational institute.
