On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, 16 students and 4 lectures/staff, mainly from the Faculty of Engineering, from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) visited Nagoya Institute of Technology (NITech) and toured our Solar Car Club, HONDA Mitsuhiro laboratory, KAWASAKI Shinji laboratory, and Organization for Co-Creation Research and Social Contributions(Equipment Sharing Division).
UPM was founded in 1931 as an agricultural school. It is a comprehensive university with approximately 16,000 undergraduate and 12,200 graduate students (as of December 2022). NITech and UPM have academic exchange agreement. It has also been designated as one of the Research University by the Malaysian government.
This time, they participated in the Formula SAE (FSAE) Japan 2024 held at Aichi Sky Expo, and then visited NITech.
During the tour of the Solar Car Club, students were given an explanation of the history of solar cars and their activities, and then they also had the valuable experience of actually touch a solar car. At the HONDA Laboratory, students were divided into three groups and received explanations from lab's students about the equipment that are actually used in the laboratory and results. At the KAWASAKI Laboratory, students received a lecture on nano-carbons from Professor KAWASAKI, after which they had a look at the equipment used in experiments. At the Organization for Co-Creation Research and Social Contributions(Equipment Sharing Division), students were given a tour of rare large-scale facilities, and listened with great interest to the talk. They also had lunch with our Malaysian international students, and had a great time and deepening the friendship.
It is expected that the relationship between the two universities will deepen even further in the future.
