On Saturday, November 29, 2025, a total of 47 students-international and Japanese-from Nagoya University of Economics, Nagoya University, and Nagoya Institute of Technology visited the Meiji Mura Museum in Inuyama City.
This event was selected for and implemented with support from the "Regional Exchange Program for International Students," organized by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) and the Nakajima Foundation for International Exchange. It was carried out under the theme "Cultural Experience Bus Tour~International Exchange between International Students and Japanese Students".
The day began with an overview of the museum presented by Mr. Akihisa Yuda, Director of Meiji Mura. Students listened attentively as he explained the origins of Meiji Mura, how many aspects of modern life were established during the Meiji era, and the museum's role in preserving and showcasing valuable cultural properties that embody this history.
After the briefing, participants were divided into 10 groups in the morning and reorganized into new groups in the afternoon to encourage interaction among different members. Each group worked on activities based on the handbook prepared by the International Affairs Division, deepening their understanding of Japanese culture and the history of the Meiji era. Students explored cultural heritage sites scattered throughout the museum and engaged in hands-on experiences, fostering active interaction among peers.
They also shared memorable experiences such as riding a steam locomotive (SL) that was actually used during the Meiji period.
Students who participated commented that they gained valuable insights into Japan's modernization and that the group activities provided opportunities to use practical English and Japanese, inspiring them to further improve their language skills.
This excursion provided a meaningful opportunity to experience Japanese culture, learn about the Meiji era-the foundation of modern Japan-and foster interaction across universities and cultures.
