Overview

The University Recommendation (MEXT) Scholarship enables outstanding international students who already have a connection with NITech faculty--through an academic exchange agreement or prior academic collaboration--to be recommended by NITech to Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).
Applications under this scheme are conducted through NITech faculty and not by direct submission to MEXT.

Who Can Apply (Eligibility)

To be considered under NITech's University Recommendation scheme, applicants should:

• Have an existing connection to NITech, such as being from a partner institution under an academic exchange agreement or having prior academic exchange/contact with NITech faculty, and obtain acceptance from a NITech supervisor.
• Hold the nationality of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan.
• Satisfy any other requirements specified in NITech's Qualifications published for the current academic year.

Scholarship Benefits (Summary)

Successful candidates recommended by NITech and awarded the scholarship by MEXT may receive tuition waiver, a monthly stipend, and travel support in accordance with the current year's MEXT regulations.

How to Apply (Step-by-Step)

1. Review the current year's "Qualifications " carefully.
2. Identify a prospective supervisor at NITech via Researcher Information. Confirm that the supervisor's name appears in the List of Academic Advisors for the applicable academic year (found under the "Admission Guide / Reference" section on NITech's website).
3. Contact the supervisor by e-mail to discuss your research plan and request acceptance. Supervisor consent is mandatory.
4. Prepare the application documents listed below and submit them by e-mail to your prospective supervisor by the deadline indicated for that year.]
5. Internal screening at NITech: NITech reviews eligible submissions and nominates selected candidates to MEXT. Nomination does not guarantee final selection.
6. MEXT review and decision: Results are usually notified around June-July.
7. Arrival in Japan and enrollment as a Research Student (typically October), followed by Japanese language training (as needed), preparation for entrance exams, and research activities.
8. Entrance examinations (commonly January) → Admission to Master's or Doctoral course (commonly April).
