Category:Award|Publishing : December 25, 2015

Mr. Shuto Ito, Department of Materials Science and Engineering ( Daisuke Ishii Laboratory ) receives the one of the coveted Student Poster Competition Awards at Pacifichem ( International Chemical Congress of Pacific Basin Societies ) 2015. His poster was among of only 54 winners selected from as many as 3645 student posters from around the world that entered the competition. His exceptional poster focused on bio-inspired oil/water separation device that is able to collect and transport oil from water without using external energies such as electricity.

Starting with taking advices from an animal, which is capable of spontaneous water transport, my study has been aiming at manipulating a variety of liquids with less energy and materials. Currently, I'm working on the generalization of these distinctive wetting phenomenon that occur on the bio-inspired device for making it more general insight that can be applied for broader fields of technologies.
