Category:News|Publishing : April 24, 2025

The 22nd Formula SAE Japan 2024 was held at Aichi Sky Expo during the period from Monday, September 9 to Saturday, September 14, 2024, participated in by 80 teams. The Nagoya Institute of Technology Formula Project (N.I.T Formula Project) came in second in the EV class and 10th in the overall ranking. The Project also received the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association Chairman Award and MathWorks Award (second place).

The Formula SAE Japan began in 2003 as a public interest activity aimed at cultivating students' overall independent manufacturing skills and nurturing the talent that will lead the automotive industry in the future. The competition consists of static examination (cost, presentation, design) and dynamic examination (driving competition, fuel efficiency, etc.). Students compete on the overall strength of their manufacturing using vehicles that they have conceived, designed and built by themselves.

The N.I.T Formula Project has participated in the competition with a gasoline engine for 20 years since the first competition and won the overall championship in 2019. The Project switched to EVs last year and has been working on developing even higher performance vehicles. This year marks the second year since the team switched to EVs. To steadily improve the vehicle's driving performance, the Project took on the competition with a machine that was 20 kg lighter than last year (vehicle weight: 300 kg).

In terms of dynamic performance, the team was able to significantly improve its score from last year, placing 10th overall (up 10 places from last year) and 2nd in the EV class (same as last year). This led to the team receiving the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Award, which is given to the team with the highest score out of the EV teams that participated in all examinations.
