SHIBATA Lab's Research Featured on the Cover of Organic Letters

Category:News|Publishing : May 16, 2024

Professor Norio SHIBATA and his team have influenced the scientific community with their latest publication in ACS Journal, Organic Letters. Their paper, titled "Cross Dehydrogenative Coupling of SF4-Alkyne with Tetrahydroisoquinolines," discloses an innovative approach to chemical synthesis co-authored by researchers Arvind Kumar Yadav (Researcher), Putri Nur Arina Mohd Ariff (third year of the Department of Nanopharmaceutical Sciences), KAWAI Koki (third year of the Department of Nanopharmaceutical Sciences), OCHIAI Seishu (first year of Master's Course the Department of Engineering, Life Science and Applied Chemistry Program), Srikanth Reddy Narra (Researcher), and Professor SHIBATA Norio (Department of Nanopharmaceutical Sciences and Department of Engineering (Life Science and Applied Chemistry)).

Accompanying this research is the "Supplementary Cover Art," a captivating piece entitled "YOMI," created by a talented Japanese-style painter. Inspired by the mystical concept of "yomi" or the afterlife in Japanese mythology, the artwork beautifully depicts two figures searching for the gateway to a sustainable society. Their serene expressions invite the viewer on a journey to the enchanted world of chemistry, where art and science merge.

Professor SHIBATA, a firm believer in the symbiotic relationship between science and art, emphasizes the importance of their intersection. "Science is not only about discovery, it's about creation," he emphasizes. Since 2013, his collaborations with artists have enriched scientific discourse, making "YOMI" the 29th such innovative collaborative work to come out of his lab.

The integration of scientific research and artistic expression not only demonstrates the Lab's commitment to innovation but also provides a means for the public to engage with scientific research.
