「A Multi-Period Stochastic Supply Chain Model Considering the Balances of Cost,Delivery Time and Emission Control Area」

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) set a target to reduce emissions by 70-80% by 2030 compared to 2008 levels, enabling the designation of Emission Control Areas (ECAs: sea areas with stricter regulations on ship emissions than general sea areas). This study constructed a multi-period stochastic model considering delivery delay penalties, slow steaming due to ECA implementation, and fuel switching. Through numerical experiments, we examined and analyzed optimal logistics strategies to minimize total costs during the pandemic.

「Simulation Model for Virtual Power Plants Considering the Balance of Renewable Energy」

Towards the realization of a carbon-neutral society, the adoption of variable renewable energy is expanding; however, the instability of power generation remains a significant challenge. In this study, a mathematical model for energy supply utilizing Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) was developed to efficiently and stably supply fluctuating renewable energy. Focusing on the Kanto region, we verified and evaluated the impact of introducing "switching prices" and "charging/discharging constraints" on balancing economic feasibility with the expansion of renewable energy through simulations.

Winners' Comments

Rikuto Shibayama

I am deeply honored to receive the Excellent Student Paper Award. This recognition is only possible thanks to the dedicated guidance of my advisor, Associate Professor Sun Jing, and the support of my fellow lab members who work tirelessly alongside me. Moving forward, I intend to continue my research on this model, which incorporates two major elements--pandemic dynamics and emission regulations--by further refining the model and considering new factors. I look forward to your continued support.

Fuki Shimahara

I am deeply honored to receive this award. I believe that this achievement was only possible through the kind guidance of my supervisor, Associate Professor Sun Jing, and the support of my laboratory colleagues, with whom I have worked together in friendly competition. Regarding the model which includes elements of VPPs and the promotion of renewable energy, I am committed to continuing my research to provide further insights and further refine the model. I look forward to your continued guidance and support.
