[Initiative Introduction] - University-wide efforts to promote the use of generative AI begin~Phase 1: Generative AI Introduced to All Full-Time Faculty and Staff~
Category:News|Publishing : April 13, 2026
NITech has introduced the generative AI environment for educational institutions, "ChatGPT Edu," to all full-time faculty and staff. This is aimed at utilizing generative AI not just as a convenient tool, but as a foundation for expanding human capabilities and improving the quality of education, research, and administrative operations.
May 2025, at the President's direction, the University established "Project Team (PT) for the Utilization of Generative AI". Following extensive discussions from the perspectives of education, research, and administrative operations, the team compiled its final report in December of the same year. The report clarified a "human-centered" approach, emphasizing that final decisions and responsibility rest with humans. It also proposed that generative AI be distributed to faculty and staff first, noting that it is essential for them to become proficient in using generative AI and to be able to engage in discussions on how it can be used to enhance the quality of learning and research.
In response to this report, and in line with President OBATA's message of "Master AI, don't let AI use you," we introduced "ChatGPT Edu" as a common platform that allows faculty and staff to use generative AI with confidence. This initiative was also featured in the Chunichi Shimbun (morning edition, January 9, 2025).
Going forward, we plan to consider distributing generative AI to master's students enrolling in April 2027, and will actively implement FD (faculty development) and SD (staff development).
